Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. I would like to start my post by giving you the definition of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). AR adds digital elements such as images, sounds or videos to the real world. Virtual reality allows users to feel as if they are in a completely invented world, which can be more exciting. Both technologies have the potential to revolutionise language learning by offering highly interactive and engaging experiences. I really think that AR and VR have a lot to offer in language learning. These technologies are great because they adapt to different learning styles. It's true that they can be expensive and technical problems can sometimes disrupt the learning process. However, with continued development and accessibility, these challenges can be overcome.
We were asked to develop an AR/VR integrated teaching material for high school preparatory students. I worked with my friends Pelin and Abdurrahman. We used Google Maps, YouTube and the website of the museum for our multimedia. We used Canva to design our materials. We decided to make the worksheet based on Copenhagen because Abdurrahman spent half of last year there. Pelin and Abdurrahman prepared and organised the material, I found the 360 videos and prepared the project. It was good to learn about Copenhagen and work together, although it was difficult to work on material at the same time.
Looking to the future, AR and VR have the potential to be really useful for language learning. As these technologies become more affordable, students will be able to use them to create language learning experiences that feel like they are in a real environment. This will help students practice speaking and listening in a way that feels natural, and improve their overall language skills.
